Los Angeles, CA September 03, 2026 --(PR.com)-- Organized by Walter Batres, President of Red Migrante Guatemalteca, the event brought members of the Guatemalan community together with government representatives and community leaders for an open exchange of information and ideas. Attendees had the opportunity to communicate directly with the dignitaries, ask questions and learn about programs, resources and opportunities available to Guatemalans both in the United States and in Guatemala.

Among the officials participating were Los Angeles Consul General of Guatemala Ms. Patricia Santizo, an Indigenous Guatemalan Mayor, Mr. Danilo Rivera, Director of the Guatemalan Institute of Migration, Mr Roberto Morales Gomez, Magistrate for the Supreme Electoral Tribunal of Guatemala, Mrs Karin Romero Figueroa, Third Voting Magistrate of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal of Guatemala and Mrs Alina Vicente, Indigenous Authority recognized as a human rights defender and advocate for equal opportunities.

Staying Connected, Staying Engaged

The event at Celebrity Centre emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for Guatemalans abroad to communicate directly with their government representatives and learn how they can participate in the future of their country.

For many attendees, the gathering offered a unique opportunity to have their questions heard directly by Guatemalan officials and to gain a better understanding of how they can remain connected to Guatemala, whether through professional opportunities, education, entrepreneurship, community initiatives, cultural activities or other forms of participation.

The event reflected a broader message: Guatemalans living abroad remain an important part of the Guatemalan community, and their knowledge, experience and contributions can help strengthen the country even from outside its borders.

By bringing community members and Guatemalan dignitaries together, the event created a space for dialogue, connection and greater understanding of the many ways Guatemalans living abroad can remain engaged with and contribute to their country.

The message was one of connection and opportunity: being Guatemalan extends beyond borders, and every Guatemalan has the ability to participate in and contribute to the future of Guatemala.

A Celebration of Guatemalan Contributions

The Hollywood gathering was part of the annual Week of Guatemala in Los Angeles, a celebration recognizing the cultural, social and community contributions of Guatemalans to Los Angeles and the greater Southern California region.

The Week of Guatemala provides an opportunity to celebrate Guatemalan heritage, highlight the achievements of the Guatemalan community and strengthen connections between Guatemalans living in Los Angeles and their homeland.

As part of this year's celebration, Los Angeles City Hall was illuminated in the blue and white colors of the Guatemalan flag, creating a visible tribute to the Guatemalan community and its contributions to the city.

The celebration also included Festival Chapín, a weekend cultural festival bringing the community together to celebrate Guatemalan traditions, music, food, arts and culture.

Together, the events highlighted the strong and continuing relationship between Guatemala and its citizens living in Los Angeles.
