Carolina Water Service Thanks Danby Residents for Helping Make New Wastewater Treatment Plant a Reality

  • $16.2 million invested in new wastewater facility
  • Modernization improves neighborhood experience
  • Local team plans to host school tours

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Aug. 27, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Carolina Water Service of North Carolina (CWSNC) is thanking Danby neighborhood residents for their patience and partnership as a major wastewater treatment plant replacement project nears completion. Approximately $16.2 million was invested in the new facility which came online this June. The next phase of the project includes safely retiring and demolishing the old plant.

"We are incredibly grateful to Danby residents for their patience and support throughout this project," said Don Denton, President of CWSNC. "Together, we've completed an investment that will benefit Danby for decades to come."

According to Denton, the new facility incorporates enhanced treatment technology including "updated odor control." He said, "We know how important proper sewage collection and treatment is for a community, but not everyone wants to reside near a plant. It was important we did everything we could for our neighbors, including proactive communication throughout construction."

Resident George Evdemon said, "We are project abutters at the Danby Plant. While we have endured much, as expected, we have also appreciated the regular communication. We believe Carolina Water Service has done an outstanding job with this project."

Updated technology will reduce power consumption, chemical use and waste-disposal needs. The plant will also serve as an educational resource as CWSNC plans to welcome local school and community groups to learn more about wastewater treatment and its role in protecting public health.

"The local team is very proud of the work they do. They are excited to inspire the next generation of plant operators," said Denton.

The Danby project is part of CWSNC's commitment to invest in reliable water and wastewater infrastructure across the state. More information can be found at www.carolinawaterservice.com.
